" Girl Resting"

 Thinking and resting and meditation...........  Very good for the soul!   I hit the canvas and this is what unraveled! The oldest says 'girl on the beach'......'she's resting!'.........It very much depicts her, my oldest, that is,  she seems to appear in my female images. 


The youngest says 'girl in the desert'........'Is she dead mommy?'  What? Dead? No Silly!........ I replied.  So I decided to add the blanket to make it more that she's lying on the beach.

           I felt inspired by the film "Midnight In Paris" so I began my next painting...........

 Mixed medium: Gouache and Oil on canvas tends to dry much faster when mixed together.  Yet, holds the same texture, vibrancy, and the dexterity of Oil.......... I initially planned to begin 'The Garden of Eden' but it required much detail.  

    


I end up Working It into Adam and Eve; The Book of Genesis; when life began. See?  That's me, under the tree reading.  

The Art of the Human Body as it is in Jesus

     "There's no one person that could possibly know everything." They may very well ACT like it, but it's not possible!  If they claim they do, they're not telling the truth!  Try asking the person something that's current such as "Who's the most popular doll in the World?" of course, *it's Barbie*  But then ask a question like "Guess what line of Barbie is coming out?"  Not a new sports car, not an iPhone, iPad or Smartphone for that matter.  If you haven't guessed already, the new Barbie that's been launched is the young mom version with tattoo's.

      ' About  one month ago I wrote an article on how I felt about tattoos.  Then, just a few days ago, while I was at Zumba, I looked around the room and realized something.  Some really special people I respect and admire have a tattoo.  I, of all people, a person who loves art, should understand that having a tattoo holds such meaning, and that it's a form of art so deeply personal that they were willing to have it sketched permanently onto their skin'

       A funny story about what a doctor once said to me. ....  a scar that was near my belly button, I asked, "does it seem to be healing okay?"  and he replied, "well, you could always have a tattoo placed over it."  We chuckled of course and then I said, "are you crazy?"  at my age?  never! That would be completely embarrassing!  He laughed really hard and said, "are you kidding?" I see women all the time who are in their 50's going through mid-life crisis and decide it's time to get a tattoo, and they have!

      I rebutted and said, not for me doc! Mind you, I couldn't have been much more than 

25 years old at the time.

       While I was dancing away I decided I was going to FIGURE out a way to survey the dance group; all in all there were 14 of us.  so I did...... As the group began to disperse I began to ask each individual if  they had a tattoo.  If so, how many?  Then my last question, Would they do it all over again?  Would they re-do the tattoos, each and every one?.........     Here's what I found out.......

       Of the fourteen individuals, including myself, a surprising TEN of us said No, they did not currently have one, nor were they planning to get one!  I asked one lady if her decision not to have a tattoo was due to religious principles or solely based on personal preference.  She stated it was her personal preference.  

       

        There were TWO men who stated YES, they had tattoos.  One guy recently got A second tattoo and yes, he would do it all over again.  The other guy stated he had several, yes, he would do it all over again, and he intends to get more....

       Then there were the TWO ladies, one of them being the incredibly talented dance instructor, who has inspired me to live life to its fullest!  Dance your heart away, be who you are, live, laugh, and most of all dance....dance......and dance some more!

        I was quite impressed with the one lady... She had her son's name on her wrist, a peacock across her foot, and one other I believe on her shoulder.  I told her that they were tastefully done and excellent pieces of art, I could see how it held personal meaning for her....  I told her that if someone told me I couldn't express myself and I had to withdraw from my love of dancing or my artwork, I don't know what I would do!  It would be like removing a part of me from me!  therefore, how could anyone tell her she couldn't express herself in such a way.  

        The last person I spoke with was Lorin....  Of the eleven tattoos, she would have 5 done all over, if, in fact, she were to do it all over again.  It was that moment I asked the question I felt most uneasy about, "was she under the age of eighteen upon getting a tattoo?"  turns out she was NOT!  Nor was anyone else.  They waited till they were WELL into their twenties before they made that decision.  

        Here's my take on it now....  It's obvious that from a religious standpoint I believe the body to be sacred in that it is not ours yet it belongs to Jesus.  I also feel that the body is so beautiful and enthralling as it is in its' pureness, that it doesn't need anything else...  God made us so unique and that the beauty of our bodies lies in its' pure and natural state of being.

        On the other hand, how could I tell someone not to place their babies name or a beloved pet's name as to become part of them and as an expression of their love for a child or a pet who they will always love and cherish, even when they are gone.  My sister-in-law had her beloved pet Spanngel placed on her foot, no more than one inch in size. I love looking at it because she was so special to all of our family.  I then think of my pets more than anything, they bring me such joy.....  Bosco and Shelby are like having two more children.  

      Here's my take on this idea now....  If its something your going to try just for fun, and your quite young, why not have it done with removable ink?  The ink is just as vibrant, and I'm sure it would not be as expensive.  You have to remember, permanent means forever!  I've always believed that getting a tattoo that will eventually wash away (and allow you to try something new and different without being so invasive) should definitely be the trend, especially if you are a very young person!  Just think, you could try a new design at anytime you wish!

       New Testament: I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.  And I pray that you, being rooted in and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  Ephesians 3: 16-19

The Ephiphany (That Brought Me Back to Life)

      My brother, the middle child, is the true artist in my family.  He has a natural ability to create something beautiful by taking a simple piece of parchment and turning it into a rich canvas.  He has never pursued this beautiful gift that's been given to him by the Lord, but he did turn to the art of building models piece by piece; a talent that takes such grace, patience, and a delicate hand.  


      This new beginning for my darling brother began around the time he and my sister in law had their first and only son.  His love for art came through in his unique ability to craft legendary characters such as The Wolfgang, King Kong, Godzilla, Count Dracula (Bela Lugosi), The Swamp Creature, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and many many others.  Although his works are collectibles he has chosen to showcase them for all his family to enjoy!  You see, the love for someone so strong (mainly Jesus Christ) could very well bring out the beautiful 'in you' as did 'the birth' of my brother's beautiful son!

Never underestimate your talents and remember it's never to late to start something new you feel spiritually connected with!  If your heart tells you to do it, then go ahead and give it a try!

      The oldest of the three has always had a strong desire to write novels.....  Just a few years ago he began pursuing his dream and has now put together a series of 10 books (maybe even more) on fictional novels evoked by true events in his life -- some blessed, many tragic -- of the lives of those growing up around him.  He uses a rhetoric which describes how he portrayed his peers, and the culture of those living in an urban multicultural neighborhood -- specifically the genre of the 70's and 80's..... He is a true genius and I pray that he will one day be destined to see his novels published on Home Box Office, (HBO)....'The second largest premium network' in America.    


      And now me, my time of blossoming, an epiphany if you will, have taken on new passions that have been part of me and who I am since I was a little girl.  


New Testament: Do everything without complaining or arguing; so that you may become blameless and pure children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you SHINE LIKE STARS in the universe as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. Philippeans 3: 14-15
